Putnam Valley Reads: Third annual Holiday Community Read - December 11, 2009

PUTNAM VALLEY READS (PVR), a subcommittee of the English Language Arts (ELA) Committee of the Putnam Valley Parent Teacher Association (PTA), is a district-wide reading initiative.  Established in 2007 its purpose is to help uphold the NYSED recommended reading standard that each student in grades K-12 should read 25 books or their equivalent each year.  PVR continues to create a reading community through various programs including parent and student book clubs, newsletters, and its annual Holiday Community Read.

The third annual Holiday Community Read was held on Saturday, December 5 in the Putnam Valley Elementary School cafeteria.  Children and their families were not only treated to stories read by members of the community and Putnam Valley Central School District staff but also a visit with Santa Claus (aka Dr. Marc Space, Superintendent of Putnam Valley Schools) and his elves at this well-attended event. Families also took part in craft activities to create ornaments and decorate pictures of holiday scenes. Roberta Velichko and the PVR committee members oversee the programs that take place throughout the year.
