For many people who live on or near the Peekskill Hollow Brook in Putnam Valley, fishing is a way of life. So it was especially fitting that the theme of the Putnam Valley PTA’s PARP committee float in the Town Day Parade on Saturday, September 13th, was “Get Hooked on Books.”

A group of PV students, parents, and teachers rode or walked alongside a rolling “dock” full of “fishermen” from grades K through 8, each one with a special book on their fishing line and a fishing hat on their head.

The effect was charming and also impressive. In fact, the parade judges awarded the PTA float the coveted Valley Cup trophy! PARP, or Parents as Reading Partners, is just one of many Putnam Valley PTA programs. For more information on PARP visit nyspta.org/programsAwards/parentsPartners.php.
