Dear Friends,

At Putnam Valley Elementary School May 8th is “Read Aloud Day” which is celebrated by having members from our community come to the school to read one of their favorite books with our students.  This event began many years ago to bring community members into the elementary school to strengthen our emphasis on the importance of reading. It has become one of my most favorite days of the year.

Here’s how the event goes…
Our guests arrive at 9:15 and gather in our library for refreshments provided by the PTA.  Our guest list includes school board members, town board members, local celebrities, administrators and others.  Each reader is assigned a class and at promptly 9:30 the readers are sent to their classroom.  The reader then shares a book with the students.

On May 8th, don’t forget to ask your child, “Who was the surprise reader today?”

Best,

Jamie
