Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are looking forward to seeing many of the creative costumes that students will wear for Halloween! As a reminder, students should not wear facemasks or bring props, plastic weapons to school. We also do not condone any costume that denigrates another individual or group of people. We want everyone to enjoy the day and feel safe and comfortable!
Additionally, we have heard rumors that seniors are planning on holding a “skip day” this week. The seniors have had a fantastic start to the school year and shown exceptional leadership. We would like this to continue. Although some consider a senior skip day to be a rite of passage, a skip day can often lead to dangerous activities for teenagers. We encourage you to communicate with your children about good decision-making and the importance of school attendance. We want our students to be safe at all times.
Also, New York State Education regulations require us to hold four lockdown drills this year, with two before December 31st. Our first drill will be held the week of November 7th-November 11th. We take the safety and well being of our students very seriously, and these lockdown drills enable us to practice important safety protocols in the case of an intruder. Along with the drill, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office will bring their dogs to the school to conduct a sweep of the building. Bringing the Sheriff's dogs to PVHS has been a regular event that coincides with lockdown drills each year and we appreciate our close partnership that we have with our local Sheriff Department.
We hope you come out this weekend for our fall play, Lend Me a Tenor under the direction of Dr. Micera. The comedy is sure to bring many laughs and showcase our students’ hard work both on and behind the stage. Friday and Saturday performances will begin at 7 pm and Sunday at 2 pm. Please go to the website to purchase tickets.
We are proud to announce that on Tuesday, our new Junior-Senior Lounge will open! The lounge is bright and functional and gives students the opportunity to have a new location to eat their lunch, to study and to relax between classes. We are very excited about this improvement for our student body.
Our fall athletes are finishing up a strong fall season. Our football team ended their season by winning the Blythedale Bowl against Blind Brook. Our Boys Cross Country Team placed third, for the first time in school history, at the Northern Counties Championship, and we look forward to sending them off to sectionals next week. Our volleyball team also beat Pleasantville in the first round of sectionals and they will continue in the playoffs. We congratulate all of our Tiger teams on their great efforts this season!
