Guidance Notes
Applications, Transcripts, Recommendations
All college applications require official high school transcripts and other supporting information. If you need teacher recommendations, we encourage you to speak to the teachers as soon as possible. They often have a number of requests from students and they need time to complete these letter.
Early Decision or Early Action applications with a November 1st deadline should be submitted to your counselor by October 22nd. Applications with a January 1st deadline should be submitted by December 15th. If you are applying on-line, please notify your counselor and complete a request form by these dates. Before we can send your transcript, we must have signed transcript release form. Many of you gave us the completed form in the spring. If you are not sure if you did, please check with your counselor.
Remember you must make arrangements to have your SAT or ACT scores sent directly to the colleges from the testing bureaus. Your high school transcript does not include these standardized test scores.
More than 350 colleges use the Common Application. You can access the application at www.commonapp.org. Many of the colleges that use the Common Application also have supplemental forms, which are also available at this site. If a college requires a supplement, your application is not complete until you complete and submit both the common application and the supplement.
The SUNY system also has its own common application. You can access it at www.suny.edu/student/apply_online. Some of the SUNY colleges and university centers also require supplemental information. You can access information about individual SUNY colleges’ requirements at this site.
