Holocaust Speaker at Putnam Valley High School - April 5, 2010

Putnam Valley High School was privileged to have Mr. Sel Hubert speak to the 10th grade students about his life experiences during the Holocaust. Mr. Hubert’s visit was made possible through the collaboration of the High School’s English and Social Studies departments and the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center. The 10th graders were transfixed by Mr. Hubert’s story. Mr. Hubert was part of the Kindertransport from Munich to England and lived with three different families before coming to the United States in 1945. Mr. Hubert spoke about his life in a small German town before, during and after the war. He provided the students, who are currently reading Elie Wiesel's memoir, Night, with a real life account of survival, hope and loss. Mr. Hubert never saw his parents again and still managed to live a life for all to admire.

This is the fourth year the HHREC of Westchester has provided Putnam Valley High School with a speaker and provides the students with a compassionate view of the Holocaust and to speak out against injustice, furthering their insight by having direct survivors tell their stories.
