Putnam Valley High School is pleased to announce that Georgia Sommer is the Class of 2010 Valedictorian and Henry Chen is the Class of 2010 Salutatorian.

Georgia Sommer has been very active both within the Putnam Valley community and outside. She is the current President of the North American Federation of Temple Youth for the New York region. She has also been an active member of the High School’s Interact Club and currently serves as Co-President. In addition, she is the President of Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society) and is a member of the National Honor Society. Georgia has worked at Camp Combe as a counselor and at the Putnam Valley Children’s Center. She is last year’s recipient of the Putnam County Youth Volunteer Award. Georgia will be attending Cornell University this fall majoring in the science of natural & environmental systems. She hopes to eventually pursue a degree in education and become a high school science teacher.

Henry will be attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the fall, where he will be majoring in chemistry. In 11th grade, Henry was the recipient of the RPI Medal, as an outstanding student in math and science. Henry is a member of the varsity lacrosse team and has been involved with Theatreworks at Putnam Valley High School, having parts in West Side Story, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and Crazy for You. He is a member of the Putnam Valley High School wind ensemble. Henry has been selected for membership in the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Tri-M Music Honor Society. He is a volunteer tutor in math and science.
