Putnam Valley High School proudly inducted 20 members into the Spanish Honor Society and 9 members into the French Honor Society in a first-time double induction ceremony on October 15, 2008. National French Honor Society Advisor Alexis Thornton, assisted by National Spanish Honor Society Advisors Brenda Singer and Ademar Náter Ocasio, steered the evening’s festivities, which included remarks by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marc Space, PVHS Principal Jonathan Bryant, and a special greeting from Putnam Valley Board of Education Trustee Dr. Guy Cohen, translated into both French and Spanish.
It was the current Honor Society student officers who supervised the induction of both groups of students. The presidents and vice presidents alternated readings in both English and French or Spanish, and they called the names of the individual inductees, who signed their names in the society’s books, lit candles, and accepted their certificates from their teacher advisors.
In his remarks, Mr. Bryant shared how there are certain days that a high school principal really treasures: the first day of school, graduation day, and any time students are honored for academic achievement. This, he said, was one of those days to be treasured.
