Please join me in welcoming Martin Nemecek to our Putnam Valley community. Marty has extremely large shoes to fill. Pete Kuczma has done an outstanding job (the second time around) in his interim work for us. We will miss Pete greatly, especially his dedication to our district, commitment, work ethic, professionalism and tremendous knowledge in all things athletics.
Marty joins us after five years as Director of Athletics and Physical Education for the Utica City Schools. He was an Assistant Principal for two years and more importantly spent 23 years as a Physical Education, Health Teacher and Coach.
Martin will join us as of July 1st.
Welcome Martin!!!!

2012 - 2013 Budgetary Challenges
|
At the Putnam Valley Central School District, we will face some very significant budgetary challenges. The New York State legislature has imposed a 2% tax levy cap, which will be in place for the foreseeable future. This cap is tied to the rent control laws in New York City that have been in place since the 1950's. Enacting this cap will be extremely difficult to accomplish in Putnam Valley since just rolling over our budget for 2012-2013 will be a 6.7% tax levy increase. Therefore, we must curtail our expenditures by $1.46 million dollars. This will be difficult to do without affecting our exemplary staffing and programs.
Please check this column for updated information as we work with our budget advisory committee and other constituents to develop the budget for the 2012-2013 school year.

The fifth annual "Holiday Community Read" was held on Saturday, December 10, at the Putnam Valley Elementary School. Putnam Valley Reads (PVR), a subcommittee of the English Language Arts Committee of the Putnam Valley PTA, sponsors the event in support of the district-wide reading initiative. Children and their families were treated to stories read by members of the school district staff and community. Tables were set up for families to enjoy refreshments and to participate in holiday themed activities. Santa and Mrs. Claus and their elves were also in attendance to greet the children.
The PVR was established in 2007 to help uphold the NYSED recommended reading standard. In addition to this annual event, PVR also continues to create a reading community through parent and student book clubs and newsletters.
