On Monday, June 7th, 2010, the cast and crew of PVHS TheatreWorks spring musical "Crazy For You" attended the Metro Awards ceremony at the Paramount Theater in Peekskill, NY. Liana Wright-Mark who played Polly Baker took home the award for "Best Dance Performance", Joe Mignone who played Bela Zangler took home the award for "Best Comedic Performance" and Debbie Spahr, Choreographer, took home the award for "Best Choreography".
PVHS was one of two schools to receive three awards, the most wins given to anyone school of all 39 schools participating in the event!
The Metros- as they are currently known, now in their 12th year, were created in 1998 to shine a spotlight on the exceptional musical theater productions, talented actors and actresses and devoted creative teams who take to the stage every spring in our local high schools. High Schools in Rockland and Westchester Counties in New York and Bergen County in New Jersey are invited to participate in this competition. The Metros began at Nyack's Helen Hayes Theatre Company and were modeled on the Paper Mill Playhouse's Rising Stars awards. The awards were first called The Helens, then the high school theater awards, and now the Metros. Throughout the spring musical season, judges are sent to evaluate participating shows.
