Dear Parents, Community Members,
We are pleased to offer our “content and skills,” utilized
by our teachers to instruct the various subjects within the Putnam
Valley Central School District. Please note that this is an on-going
work in progress. Our teachers will continue to meet on a regular
basis to examine and analyze the content and skills in relation to
student assessment and other forms of data. We will also be adding
other pertinent curricular themes such as “essential questions” and “assessments.” Our
staff development this year will focus on further refining these units
of study to ensure that we continue to differentiate instruction in
order to meet the instructional needs of all our students.
We want to acknowledge the hard work that all of our teachers have
put into this endeavor to date. The “curriculum maps” that
you will see have taken a significant amount of effort and time to
complete. After each individual teacher completed his or her own “electronic
diary map” (what they actually have been teaching), they then
met together to define/revise the “core map” that will
be utilized within these grades and/or content areas.
At the Putnam Valley Central School District, we utilize Grades Kindergarten
through Twelve Content Area Coordinators. These individuals are teachers
who also serve as a facilitator in helping us continue to refine our
curriculum. The teachers who have and/or will continue to serve in
this role are: Mary Kay Cohen, Joe Mahoney, Marifran DeMaine, Angela
Capodanno, Tim Henkels, Bruce Ludovicy, Ed Schmitt, Mike Hanna, Keith
Fiore, Jen Armbruster, Lisa Furlong, Ryan Odell, Karen Kruse, Glen
Buckhout, Frank Heitman, Maria Fama, Graciela Greenberg. Thank you
to these hard working professionals! Our dedicated administrators:
Jamie Edelman, Louise Frangella, Ed Hallisey, David Fine, Rich Herlihy,
Sam Oliverio, Jim Stowell and I serve as liaisons to our Content Area
Coordinators.
Without the continuous assistance of our invaluable technology staff,
Laura Sherwood and Alex Gofman, the exemplary work that you see displayed
on our website would not have been possible.
Thank you for taking the time to examine our curriculum to date.
We welcome your input!
We are aware that you may find a few typos within our just completed
curriculum maps, but our intent was to ensure that our parents and
community members have curricular access prior to the beginning of
the new school year. We will continue to examine these maps and make
corrections as needed. Please send comments to Dr. Barbara Fuchs.
I can be reached via 845-528-8143 or bfuchs@pvcsd.org
Sincerely,
Dr. Barbara Fuchs Putnam Valley Central School District Assistant
Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction
