Curriculum
September 2009

Dear Parents, Community Members,

We are pleased to offer our newly modified “content and skills,” utilized by our teachers to instruct the various subjects within the Putnam Valley Central School District. Two years ago, we posted our “core maps” on our web site. “Core maps” are defined as the content and skills which multiple teachers in the same grade or subject areas have agreed to utilize. During the course of the school year and over the summer, our teachers met within grades, across grades and content areas in order to produce the current “core maps” displayed here. Since learning is never a static, unchanging process, as our teachers continue to examine their curriculum and instruction in relation to student needs, the content and skills in their courses will be modified.

We want to acknowledge the hard work that all of our teachers have put into this endeavor to date. The revised “curriculum maps” that you will observe have taken a significant amount of effort and time to produce.

At the Putnam Valley Central School District, we utilize Grades Kindergarten through Twelve Content Area Coordinators. These individuals are teachers who also serve as a facilitator in helping us continue to refine our curriculum. The teachers who will serve in these roles for the 2009 - 2010 school year are: Chris Crill, Pat Vandevelde, Joe Mahoney, Stella Mouyios, Kerri Burdett, Cheryl Kahn, Angela Capodanno, Maureen Beyrer, Maria Bradfield, Bruce Ludovicy, Barbara Parmly, Travis McCarty, Ed Schmitt, Keith Fiore, Jen Armbruster, Ryan Odell, Brian Burrow, Maria Obando, Grace Bisogne, Kurt Worell. Thank you to these hard working professionals! Our dedicated administrators continue to act as liaisons to our Content Area Coordinators.

Without the continuous assistance of our invaluable technology staff, Laura Sherwood and Alex Gofman, the exemplary work that you see displayed on our web site would not have been possible.

Thank you for taking the time to examine our curriculum to date. We welcome your input!

Sincerely,

Dr. Barbara Fuchs
PVCSD Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Personnel
