Putnam Valley High School proudly inducted twenty-five new members to their chapter of the National Honor Society.   Following the procession of the new members, the Pledge of Allegiance was led by National Honor Society member Galvert Barbecho.  The National Honor Society advisors, Mrs. Cefaloni and Ms. Penta, welcomed the inductees, their families and friends to the ceremony. Putnam Valley’s Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Barbara Fuchs, and the High School Principal, Mr. Vincent Burruano, delivered the opening remarks. The motto, mission and purpose of the National Honor Society was explained by NHS member Maria Rao and the history and chapter legacy was noted by member Christine Alexander.  Mr. Nicholas Albano, graduate of Putnam Valley High School’s Class of ‘05, and third year student at NYU Medical School, presented the Keynote Address. Selected NHS members addressed the attributes of the National Honor Society and lit the candles during the ceremony: Dylan Mah spoke about Scholarship, Lauren Mias about Leadership, Kristen Weeks about Service and Jimmy Hertzel about Character.

The presentation of the new members followed: Nina Azcue, Logan Bagarozy, Naomi Forman, Kimberly Gallo, Anthony Gentile, Emily Gifford-Smith, Alexandra Givan, Thomas Keogh, Saara Knapp, Laura Longhitano, Meghan Malone, Colby Meagle, Andrew Orefice, Danielle Roberts, Amanda San Lucas, Kimberly Schneider, Nicholas Scolaro, Brian Sillery, Shelley Sperling, Alexander Spitzer, Dana Tatnell, Jennifer Whittaker, Jaclyn Williamson, Amanda Yannarelli, Ben Zevola.

The members then recited the National Honor Society pledge:

I pledge myself to uphold the high purpose of the Society to which I have been elected.
I will be true to the principles for which it stands.
I will be loyal to my school and maintain and encourage high standards of
Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character.

Administrative representatives included: Dr. Barbara Fuchs, Superintendent of Schools; Mr. Vincent Burruano, PVHS Principal; Mr. Sam Oliverio, Assistant Principal; and Board of Education Trustees: Mrs. Valerie Fitzgerald, Mrs. Jeanine Rufo, and Mr. Guy Cohen. The faculty members on the National Honor Society Faculty Council are Mrs. Regina Albano, Mrs. Paige Davino, Mr. Frank Gutierrez, Mr. Jason Horr, Mrs. Melissa Rossano, and Mrs. Brenda Singer. The National Honor Society Advisors are Mrs. Linda Cefaloni and Ms. Penta.
