Committee on Special
Education (CSE):
In accordance
with state law, the Board of Education must appoint
a CSE to assist in meeting its responsibilities
to students with disabilities. The membership
on the committee includes the parents of the student,
a general education teacher, a special education
teacher, a related service provider (when appropriate),
a parent member, representative of the school
District and the student when appropriate.
Referrals:
A student having difficulty in school
will be brought to the attention of the Instructional
Support Team (IST) for review. If the team, after
trying to assist the student, suspects a disability,
they will make a referral in writing to the committee
on special education. In addition, if a parent
suspects a disability, then they may refer a student
to the CSE for an evaluation. Referrals should
be in writing to the school building administrator.
Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE):
The
PVCSD provides preschool programs and services
for children with special needs. Parents of
the pre-school children between three and five
years of age may contact the CPSE if they have
concerns about their child’s social, language,
speech, motor, or cognitive development.
